-Joke Of The Day-
Pele has always made moronic comments and this is no exception.
The old fool's latest comments shows how out of touch he is with the modern game. Its not about the number of goals you score in this day and age, its how you score and when you score.
Pele is a relic from days when players' exploits were read about in newspapers rather than witnessed first-hand on live television. That said, from the available footage of his playing career, he really is no big deal. Best player ever? Pele doesn't even warrant a mention. The players worthy of consideration for that title are Maradona, Zidane (or Messi if he proves himself worthy).
Another thing, Pele's goal tally is made up of goals from his playing days with the New York Cosmos. That is hardly the kind of standard of football we associate with the best player ever.
Mr. Pele when you played football players were almost walking around the pitch and they didn't try to break your leg when you showed skill and that is why Messi is already better than you. When I compare football 30 years ago and today's football, it's like watching a slow motion film.
It is a bit sad. A legend in his golden years acting like a little kid, in front of a young kid that is more mature than him and on his way to becoming a legend as well.
The fact is, it is harder to reach 1000 goals today than before because, the leagues are getting harder, and the most important fact is that back then, the emphasis was more on attack than defense. How much so? We now play the 4-4-2, but back then, there were many people playing 2-4-4.
Pele is a legend and no one can take it away, but the pedestal he is standing on is not meant for just one person. And people are coming to share it, so please politely make some space.
Someone should tell him that he (Pele) wasn't even the best player of his own generation, not to talk of best player ever. He only made his mark in the World Cup, ably aided by other prodigiously talented players like Garrincha, Tostao, Rivelino, Jaizinho and Carlos Alberto. He never played and won titles and accolades in the best leagues in Europe, did he? The greatest player ever remains Diego Maradona, and even he, Pele knows this. That's why he's always insecure anytime Diego's name is mentioned; ever noticed how Pele starts to point to his personal problems, whereas you'll hardly hear Maradona say anything about him. Lionel Messi is undoubtedly the best player in the world right now. Can go on to be the best player ever? Time, and consistently stellar performances for club and country will tell.
